To our dearest community,
Often times in recessionary periods, arts and culture are the first to suffer. In addition, our country is in the midst of one of the most significant election periods in our history, an event that impacts the emotional psyches of many Canadians. However, throughout all this, we’ve managed to sustain an unprecedented growth. Once again, our little community has banded together to create something so epic in our city, that we’ve accepted a bigger challenge for next year.
From the bottom of our hearts, we want to express the utmost gratitude to each and every individual in this amazing local, national, and international community. Without you, our festival would not have doubled in scope from our first one in 2014 (of which was of historical significance in itself), and we would not have experienced the amount of newcomers to this “underground society”.
To our Burlesque legend, trailblazer, and official “Mama Beaver”: Judith Stein, we could not do this without you. You paved the way for the rest of us to continue this beautiful artform, and for this we are forever thankful.
To our esteemed headliners: Kitten N’ Lou, Betsy Bottom Dollar, Shirley Gnome, and EmpeROAR…we were incredibly honored that you graced us with your glittery presence; you were all fabulous and amazing, that there was never a dull moment this weekend because of you!
To our performers; your incredible devotion and attention to your craft has not gone un-noticed; as evidenced in your performances this weekend, we are forever reminded of the diverseness and talent that this art form is capable of.
To our volunteers; festivals like this are made a reality because of people like you; your efficiency and willingness to make things happen are why we were as successful as we are.
To our venues: Bamboo Tiki Room, Engineered Air Theatre, Dickens Pub, and Blind Monk; it takes quite a leap of faith to devote an entire space to a creative performance art of this caliber. Your never-ending accommodation to the festival and service to our esteemed patrons remind us of the reason why you are our safe space.
To our sponsors: you spared no expense in helping to make our festival a reality. Thank you for your financial contributions and product donations. You made our guests and performers feel welcome and showered them in beautiful things. We’re forever grateful.
And finally, to all of our guests; thank you for your wonderful support for our art-form and festival. Your actions during this weekend showed us that we are constantly supported in a safe and welcoming environment. You were the biggest reason for this successful festival!
See you next year!
XOXO- Ruby, Kim, James, Dev, Erin, Amanda, Eva, Vanessa
