My sexuality and self-image had been wounded in my past and burlesque seemed like an amazing way reclaim both of these things. I was the last to sign up for the Garter Girls School of Burlesque’s very first class. I almost didn’t do it because I was in school at the time and could barely afford being alive, but I chose burlesque over food and never regretted it.
Through burlesque and the burning man community, I have been able to perform all over the world, share my art and teach. I have learned in life to try and lead by example, so I’m trying to provide an example of self-acceptance and self-love through my art form. I’m always humbled and honoured when anyone approaches me and says seeing my performance helped them overcome any negative self-talk or they’ve come away feeling empowered. I still have a lot to learn but I’m excited to see what the future holds.
